An Operational Approach to Agroecology-Based Local Agri-Food Systems

چکیده
In recent years, the transition to sustainability at a food systems’ scale has drawn major attention both from scientific and political arenas. Agroecology become central such discussions, while impressive efforts have been made conceptualize agroecology scaling process. It thus necessary apply concept of transitions systems in different “real-world” contexts. Scaling local experiences production, distribution, consumption, which are often disconnected and/or disorganized, also reveals emergent research gaps. A critical review was performed order establish transdisciplinary dialogue between literature on sustainable systems. The objective build insights into how advance towards Agroecology-based Local Agri-food Systems (ALAS). Our unveils questions as: overcome metabolic rift related segregated activities along chain, feed cities sustainably, they should relate surrounding territories, social subjects drive transitions, governance arrangements would be needed. paper argues favor re-construction metabolisms, territorial flows, plural (bottom-up) assemblages, placing life center system going beyond rural–urban divide.

Agroecology and Alternative Agri-Food Movements in the United States: Toward a Sustainable Agri-Food System
The concept of agroecology in the United States is born out of a dialectical process of co-production of knowledge whereby the science of agroecology has shaped and been shaped by alternative agri-food movements, policy, and local practice. This article examines the relationship between agroecology and alternative agri-food movements and identifies opportunities for greater engagement. The arti...

Today’s society faces many challenges when it comes to food production: producing food sustainably, producing enough of it, distributing food, consuming enough calories, consuming too many calories, consuming culturally-appropriate foods, and reducing the amount of food wasted. The distribution of power within the current mainstream agri-food system is dominated by multinational agri-businesses...

متن کاملA holon approach to agroecology
Systems thinking contributes to envisioning agricultural sustainability. However, it faces two dilemmas, recently highlighted by complexity theory: the problems of boundary and change. We propose that interpreting Koestler’s holon as an intentional entity embedded in an ecology of contexts provides an ontological construct which addresses both of these issues. The holon is in some ways a whole ...
